Where Colour Remains

Where Colour Remains

Retrospective exhibition announced in memory of well known Swindon Artist Paul Exton.

As part of the Swindon Arts Festival, Paul’s work is being displayed at a solo exhibition titled ‘Where Colour Remains’ at The Post Modern in Theatre Square.

Paul Exton was a contemporary artist born and raised in Swindon, Wiltshire. He was known for vibrant geometric compositions, large-scale murals, and community-focused public art projects which have left a lasting mark on the town’s creative landscape.

A respected figure within Swindon’s artistic community, Paul was one of the founder members of Artsite, the independent arts organisation and studio collective in Theatre Square, where he exhibited regularly and collaborated with fellow regional artists. His artistic legacy continues to live on through the murals you can see around the town.

Sadly Paul passed away in November 2025 after a short battle with liver cancer. During his illness he was still very much enthusiastic about art, curating an exhibition from his sick bed via video call and trying to paint perched on the side of his hospital bed. He quoted Frida Kahlo as his inspiration who continued to paint whilst confined to her sick bed.

Paul’s retrospective ‘Where Colour Remains’  showcases his bold and abstract style from the early days of Art College to his more recent work.  The opening night is on 13th June and the exhibition runs from 15th June to 28th June at The Post Modern – Theatre Square – Swindon. Opening hours 10-4pm.

Speaking about the exhibition, Pauls daughter Petra said:  Dad loved his art. He came to it quite late and finished art college at 50 but he definitely caught up for lost time. We discovered lots of his artwork in his garage and studio, art we had never seen before and we are so pleased to be able to share his work with the people of Swindon in his retrospective.

Some of his art will be for sale and can be viewed here https://paulexton.art/

Proceeds are being split between Artsite and Prospect Hospice where Paul was cared for in his last days.
